Republic of Macedonia, located on the Balkan peninsula, is an independent state in Southeastern Europe. The country’s capital city is Skopje, its official language is Macedonian, although numerous other languages are spoken and the country has a population of just over 2 million people. The Republic of Macedonia is sometimes referred to as the land of lakes and mountains as the country is home to over 50 big lakes and 16 mountains which stand taller than 2000 meters above sea level. The currency used here is the Macedonian denar (MKD).
